Green Infrastructure and
Urban Forestry Conference

“This one you will not want to miss,” Mayor Gene McGee. The 18th annual urban forestry conference will feature a special focus on creating a sustainable green infrastructure for your community and on development, business or home sites. The conference will feature five national experts. Join us also for the 18th annual statewide urban forestry and green awards, plus a pre-conference workshop on tree appraisal. The City of Hattiesburg, the Ms State Extension Service, the US Forest Service and the MS Forestry Commission have joined together to bring you these exciting programs.
Special Presentations:
Dr. Kim Coder, University of Georgia is considered the “Father of Urban forestry.” Dr. Coder will share his lifetime of experience during a four hour workshop.
Mr. James Urban is the owner of the foremost green infrastructure planning firm in the country. He will share the latest from his new book “Up By The Roots”
Buck Abbey from LSU has written many books on tree ordinances and landscape codes. He will share the latest “Super Tree Laws.”
Ed Blake's work with The Landscape Studio begins from first-hand knowledge of living infrastructures sustaining the land's ecosystem services. Spence Kellum contributes to this effort by compiling system mosaics of digital data from public sources used to evaluate site impacts of planning and design decisions. The Studio's work is published worldwide.
Malcolm Guidry will teach guidelines and use of tree appraisals.
Continue Education Credits:
The conference presentations and workshops will qualify for continuing education credits for arborists, foresters, planners, landscape architects, parks and rec., public works, landscape gardeners, nurserymen plus mayors and aldermen. Also, attending the conference will certify you to become a Master Urban Forester.
